We adopted Macintosh on 12/1 from Austin Pets Alive. He's a Labrador Retriever mix, with "something big" (Great Pyrenees?) according to the Vet.

I hung out with the TCW crew at their Tuesday night practices last month. It was a blast watching these guys train and get ready for their show. They are a very talented bunch.

Capital Area Food Bank of Texas

Here's a video I made on Volunteers, focusing on the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas and their events leading up to Thanksgiving. The CAFB is an amazing organization that does so much for our local community. Everyone I met throughout the process was incredible.

I also took a few shots at the Austin Empty Bowl Project, which far exceeded my expectations. Thousands of Austinites were lined up at 8 AM just for a chance to buy a bowl. I don't have room to explain the event here, but watch the video or check out the links.

And, lastly, go volunteer. You're not too busy and it is literally FREE. No matter where you live, there's an organization that could use your help. It is the holidays, after all. The season for giving.

I was in Pflugerville on Friday night to shoot the Panthers opening game against the Bowie Bulldogs. Bowie hung around and had a couple of chances in the 4th quarter to go down and win it, but ended up falling short 27-21.

Pflugerville running back Storm Woods (fantastic football name, #34 above) was the star, rushing for 131 yards and 3 TDs. I'll post some B&Ws from the game soon.

Got to go on a fishing trip over Memorial Day weekend in Western Oklahoma. There are about 20+ guys who go out there annually. I don't get to go every year, but it's always fun when I do.

Really working to get your food gives you a better appreciation for it. Reading Michael Pollan helps too. Say a prayer of thanks for the next chicken/cow/pig/turkey/fish that lost its life so you could eat.

That's right, it's World Cup time! USA v. England this Saturday at 1 p.m.

I'm commemorating the occasion by posting some photos from a Dynamo vs. Galaxy game I shot this spring. The guy in the first shot needs no introduction (hopefully). However, you may not recognize the second guy.

I originally just knew Edson Buddle as the guy who scored twice for L.A. that night and had a cool celebration. Well he kept scoring in the MLS and got an invitation to the US training camp, where he continued to impress and made the World Cup squad. He'll most likely come on as a sub in South Africa, but could make a huge impact. The guy is named after Pelé, which makes him even cooler.

The image at the bottom is from something ESPN is doing to promote their coverage. They made a poster for each of the 32 teams and they're all pretty awesome. Here's hoping we dismantle the British just like Washington did in 1776.

Got a chance to shoot some minor league hockey awhile back. The Texas Stars are a step below the NHL's Dallas Stars, kind of like a Triple-A baseball affiliate. It was incredibly fast paced and fun to shoot. I also got some behind-the-scenes stuff for a photo essay I'm working on. I'll post those photos later on. Is it really almost May?

I shot the iPad launch last Saturday. I was expecting a few diehards in lawn chairs, but there were hundreds of people waiting in line when I arrived. The top photo is the countdown hitting zero, and the bottom photo is the (very proud) first iPad owner from the Apple Store at The Domain.

Capital Metro finally opened its commuter rail service on Monday. The Red Line runs from Leander to Downtown. I rode it home from class the other day and it is pretty nice. Guess I have a soft spot for trains. I hope the MetroRail is successful, because the plans for future expansion look awesome.

I got to shoot David Gray this past weekend for a photo essay I'm working on. He played Hogg Auditorium which was really cool because it's a pretty small venue with an intimate feel. The Fralick Crew came down last weekend. Tiffany was being honored at halftime of the girls state finals at the Frank Erwin Center. It was the 10-year anniversary of her Canyon Lady Eagles (boooo) team winning the state championship. While waiting for the presentation, Kinsler decided to show off his speed and quickness. The aerodynamic faux-hawk helped. After a few trips back and forth, he decided to hang out with Dad for a little bit.

See...iPhones can be used for good! You be the judge on their level of sobriety (seriously, see poll on right). I tweaked my site a bit. The portraits are really engagements but that doesn't sound as good. Also, the photojournalism stuff is sparse but hey, that's why I'm going to school. Let me know if you run across any broken links.

One of my favorite Christian authors is Donald Miller. If you haven't read him then you are missing out. He had a funny post on his blog the other day poking fun at us Apple users. Being able to laugh at yourself is extremely important so, if you consider yourself a "Mac", you should check it out.

Sorry for the blog hiatus, but the first of the year has been incredibly busy. As many of you know, I got into The University of Texas and am going back to school this semester. I'm currently trying out for The Daily Texan, our student newspaper.

My first assignment was covering a rally in support of Israel and the Palestinian organization that showed up to protest. It was pretty intense and there were some very heated exchanges. It was kind of disheartening to see how much pure hatred there is between the two sides. I'm pretty sure swastikas aren't appropriate in any setting, but one gentlemen didn't think so.

So Matt was gracious enough to get us into the Texans/Lions game this past weekend. It was a pretty terrible game. The Lions are really bad. This video of their quarterback still puts a smile on my face. A couple of strange things happened.

1. A guy in the row in front of us read the Houston Chronicle the ENTIRE game. He didn't cheer, clap, stand up, or even watch a single play. Maybe he was pulling for Detroit.

2. They showed that the Cowboys had lost to the Rams and the crowd began to cheer wildly (I began to sob). Matt explained that Texans' fans HATE the Cowboys. I was not aware of this, nor do I fully understand it.

Overall, we had a great time and I got to take some cool pictures. Brittyne was impressed with the Tailgating. I was impressed with Steve Slaton.....and the Cheerleaders.

The Patron Saint of Brewers

Went to Houston this past weekend to visit Matt. Our first stop was the Saint Arnold Brewing Company. As many of you know, these guys make fantastic beer. If you're ever in Houston, stop by on Saturday afternoon around 1:00. It's only $5 for the "tour" which includes a tasting glass and four beer tokens (Brittyne is modeling a token for you). They brew 10 different beers and every one we tried was stellar. You won't be disappointed.

On a more important note, Early Voting started today. Let's see if Obama can grab the lead in the Jackson Photography poll in addition to all the others.

We went to Amarillo this past weekend to see our nephew, Kinsler Davis Fralick, for the first time. He's only a month old but already has a nasty 2-seam fastball. Brad & Tiffany are doing great at being parents. Didn't get to take pictures of him this time, but hopefully we'll get to that next time around.

However, I did get a chance to take pictures of Wes & Elizabeth. Wes and I go way back and Elizabeth is actually my sister-in-law's sister, if that makes any sense. They recently got engaged and have a wedding coming up in November. They were great together and we had a really fun time shooting. They were even up for getting in the fountain. Very cute couple, don't you think?

Sure you've lost 14 of 19 and fallen to 12 games out in the Wild Card race. Sure your "closer" just faked an injury to avoid any further blown saves. Sure all of Dallas has switched over to caring more about Tony Romo's pre-season completion percentage rather than Josh Hamilton's RBI total. However, let's try and finish up strong, OK?

I know Dallas is really hot in August, something happened to Kinsler's groin, Bradley can't run out a grounder without pulling up lame, and you basically start out every night in a 0-9 hole, but enough excuses. Let's look at the bright side. You're in 2nd place in the AL West (16 games back, but who's counting?), Blalock is back (careful, if you so much as breathe on him, he's out till next All-Star break), Millwood looks ready to go 5 more complete games (or innings, we'll see), and Josh Lewin has yet to confuse Brandon Boggs with LaDainian Tomlinson.

But the main reason you shouldn't give up quite yet.....some of us are actually still watching ("Mad Men" can only save us on Sundays, and the Olympics are over). Speaking of, I need to go so I can watch (this weeks' episode of "Hard Knocks") you attempt to sweep the Royals .

Abbey Road

For those of you that don't know, Abbey Road Studios is where the Beatles recorded almost all of their albums, including the album named for the street the studio is on. Brittyne is doing her best John Lennon, and she's even in white! People write all over the fence in front, as you can see. It is definitely the Mecca for any Beatles fan.

If you have the Sundance Channel, they are in the 2nd season of a cool series where they bring in artists to record at Abbey Road. If you have Time Warner, you can see a few on the Free On Demand channel.

On a side note, Amarillo recently got a treat when Sir Paul McCartney made a pit stop there on his Route 66 road trip. He was supposedly spotted at the Ambassador Hotel and Leal's. Crazy huh?

Definitely an architectural feat and very cool to see in person. We didn't ride it due to the combination of time constraints and the weak state of the US dollar. A big congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Eli Moore!! Their Phoenix wedding on 7/19 went swimmingly. However, the post-wedding shoot was interrupted by thousands of ants that loved the color white or thought Laura was very cute, one of the two. After a quick jog around the country club shaking out her dress the couple danced the night away (literally, they were sent off just after midnight). Thanks for letting me be a part of it!

I've been trying to keep myself busy while Brittyne is away. This weekend I was in Phoenix for a wedding (pictures coming soon) and Denver to visit the one-and-only Josh Payne and check out the Mile High Music Festival. When I got back in town, I heard from Chance and found out that he got moved up and would be pitching in Round Rock! Above is the visual evidence of that. Chance & Josey have also joined the blog force. I'm very excited to have them back in Austin.

All went well with the birth of my niece, Elliot Grace Jackson. As you can see, mom looked great before and baby looked great after. Elliot's pretending to be a monster and scare me in the first shot. Only two days old and already working the camera! She's even cuter in person. Way to go Jordan and Jennie!

Boredom on Saturday afternoon led me to ignore the fact that gas is $4 a gallon and take a drive on the Capital of Texas Highway. Wikipedia claims it is "one of the most scenic urban drives in Central Texas". I'm not very schooled on urban drives in Central Texas, but obviously the people who are have this one at the top of their list. I agree.
